About this Event

11am – 3pm

Celebrate the giraffe’s birthday and explore the world’s wonderful animals through play, art and stories. Come along dressed up as animals to help giraffe get in the party mood! The day is especially for our youngest visitors age 0-4, and their primary carers. There’s no need to book, just drop in throughout the day from 11am – 3pm. Dressing up and spare clothes are encouraged, and a buggy park is available and recommended.

Activities include: baby sensory zone, family dance, sing along, discovery zone, messy play, treasure baskets and arts and mark making.

Animal Workout (10 mins)

A 10 minute energetic activity encouraging children to do exercises inspire by animals

Tom from Suffolk Libraries will lead lively song and story sessions

Song Journeys (30 mins)

Join Joe and his guitar on a musical tour of the museum, singing well known animal songs as we go!

Creative Dance sessions (20 mins)

Join dance artists from DanceEast for fun and lively animal-themed family music and movement sessions.

Activities running throughout to drop in and out of:

  • Sign giraffe’s birthday card
  • Sensory spaces
  • Story baskets
  • Sandy animal footprints
  • Science discovery zone – get up close and hands on with museum objects
  • Animal bath area – give toy animals a wash and get them ‘party-ready’!
  • Bird hide and binocular making
  • ‘Birthday cake’ station (playdough)


We’re excited to be collaborating with Ipswich Baby Sensory, DanceEast, Britten-Pears Foundation and Suffolk Libraries.

Please note: a professional photographer will be present on the day. Please let a member of the Museums team aware if you do not wish to be photographed.
