Local History: The Fonnereau family at Christchurch Mansion
Extending pupils chronological knowledge beyond 1066, this session focuses on what life was like for people living and working in Ipswich during the Victorian era. As a full or half-day visit, it brings the Victorian home to life. Pupils can play the role of servants to complete kitchen and laundry chores, before dressing up at the rich homeowners Mr and Mrs Fonnereau.
Activities include:
- Dressing up, making real butter and role-playing the Victorian washing week
- Using real and replica objects to investigate how Victorian people in Ipswich lived, through the lives of the rich and poor residents of Christchurch Mansion
- Taking part in deportment activities, silhouette drawing and much more.
Minimum and maximum group sizes: 20 to 60 pupils.
Adult:Pupil ratio: 1:6
Duration: 240 minutes, 10am-2pm with lunch break.
